ACBCO will present up to four scholarship awards to outstanding blind/visually impaired students in 2010. All legally blind, full or part-time students admitted to academic and vocational training programs at the post-secondary level for the 2010-11 school year are encouraged to apply for one of these scholarships. A cumulative grade point average of 3.3 is generally required, but extenuating circumstances may be considered for certain scholarships. Applicants must be legally blind in both eyes. Applications and supporting documentation must be submitted in hard copy print, post-marked by March 2, 2010 and sent to: Barbara Boyer, Executive Director American Council of the Blind of Colorado 1536 Wynkoop Street, Suite 201 Denver, CO 80202 Students must be attending an accredited school in pursuit of a degree or advanced certificate. Scholarship(s) may be awarded for the following: Post graduate: Master’s_____ Doctoral_____ Undergraduate Academic_____ Vocational_____ Certificate (30+ credits)____ Payment of scholarship funds will be made directly to the education institution on behalf of the successful student(s) on or before September 1, 2010. 2. Proof of legal blindness: Verification should be in the form of a statement from a state rehabilitation agency, an ophthalmologist or an optometrist.
3. Proof of US citizenship: A passport, birth certificate, naturalization papers or proof of legal residency.
4. Documentation of academic achievement: Copies of school transcripts and copies of SAT and/or ACT results. A waiver may be approved upon request for special circumstances.
5. Three letters of recommendation: One letter should attest to the candidate’s academic skills. Each letter must include the name, address and telephone number of the person writing the reference.
6. A personal statement: The statement (750 words or less) should describe the educational, career and personal goals of the applicant.
